Does backlinks increase your SERP?
« on: April 22, 2010, 04:44:19 PM »
We know every back link to your site is another "vote" to your site and help your PR but, does it increase your SERP? We heard people saying they out rank others with higher PR. There seems to be different opinions. What's your?

Hi Little jake

Of course it increases your SERP (at least if you cared about the anchor text, this is crucial). This is the only reason we do this - who cares about the PR if you rank well with no PR ;-)

Alone the fact that there is only PR from 0 to 10 tells you that ranking must be decided on other factors... What if you have 2000 sites competing against each other? If it was only PR most of them would share the same PR, but obviously only 10 make to the first page of the SERP...

Thanks Mike.

Backlinks also help PR. Then backlinks, SERP and PR are some way related. Of course there are other factors too.

My research has shown that since Day 1 links and content are, and will remain, the best way not only to advance in the SERPS but most importantly to stay there.

It used to be you could focus on getting any old website to link to you and if you built up enough inbound links you win. I did this with my very first website and after a month of link building took over the # 1 spot on Google. This no longer works by itself.

Yes, links increase your position in the SERPS, HOWEVER, these days just focusing on straight link building and nothing else is a losing proposition.

These days I use articles and blog posts to great effect. I took one site selling acne products from nowhere to first page on Google in less then 3 weeks using the following formula:

1. Write, or have written, a topically relevant article for the industry I am interested in.
2. Use Jonathon's The Best Article Spinner and create 7 unique versions of the article (make sure each is at least 30% unique)
3. Insert my Top 7 keyword sets (two per article) into each article
4. Create a unique article title and author's bio for each article

5. Manually submit each article to my Top 7 article distribution websites (email me for the list)
6. Open T.B.A.S., grab the spun article and head on over to the blog network I suscribe to (email me if interested)
7. Paste the spun copy into their program, insert my keywords, chose my daily distribution level, pick the categories I want and click "Submit". Each time the article is requested a brand new unique version is spit out by the software along with my embedded links.
8. Lather, rinse, repeat!

For those who might be asking or worrying whether the articles are readable then don't. Remember earlier I stated I used The Best Article Spinner to rewrite the article? The blog posting software allows you to view waht your article looks like. If you used T.B.A.S. then you have nothing to worry about.

Now if one of you who are great at picking niches wants to talk ;). I will admit my one weakness is picking the right niche. Once I figure that out I'm in the clear.

So to summarize links do help...links with relevant copy wrapped around them increase your chances of getting to the top of the SERPS one hundredfold.

I hope this helps.

Building backlinks to your site definitely helps on your ranking, but be aware that you should make your backlinking look natural to google.

Good point! I have discovered one article per day doesn't raise any flags. Also, DO NOT USE THE SAME KEYWORD(S) OVER AND OVER FROM ONE ARTICLE TO THE NEXT!

Here's what I do:

1. I get the top 10 results from a keyword search from KWS or Adwords (Sorry JL, I still like Adwords until I can figure out how to best use KWS :P)
2. Write your articles either manually or with Instant Article Writer. Outsource this as well if you are comfortable with this.
The number of articles I write depends on the industry. I ALWAYS write a minimum of 10 articles regardless.
3. I take my top 2 keywords and embed them in my first article then submit it to my favorite article distribution sites.
4. I spin the same article and submit it to the blog network I use with GREAT effect. The cool thing about this is I can put the keyword links near the top of the article here versus having to put them at the bottom of the article when using the article distribution sites. Why is this important? Links near the top of the page's content are seen as more important than those farther down the page
5. I take the next two keyword(s) and repeat the process the next day.

This has worked well for me.

Yes, but anchor text and C Class Ip Range makes a big difference, but if your just starting out get your first 1000 quality links first.
