Catalog of errors/bugs
« on: February 05, 2018, 12:25:38 PM »
Hi,
As a first experience of using Instant Video Wizard, its not been a great seamless flow.

1. The video failed to upload.  See error message pasted below.

2. The video category failed to upload. I didnt copy and paste the error message but Youtube said the category "Documentary" was not valid (from the drop down in IVW)

3. Having messed about changing the video's settings, category, country etc, I got it to successfully upload a scheduled live event into my YT channel.  But the thumbnail failed.  It is not the thumbnail I chose during the IVW upload, so it looks bad in YT.

4. When I manually go into the YT event, it says "We are not receiving data from your encoder. Please make sure it is configured correctly in the Ingestion Settings page."

I am using a desktop Windows computer, browser is Firefox.

Any chance this could be made seamless for the user?

Thanks

Duncan

1/2 - That's an issue on YouTube's end. IVW is using YouTube's API to pull a list of video categories for the selected region, and "Documentary" is definitely one of the ones they're returning. Then YouTube rejects it as invalid, even though it came from their API. I can't fix that. That's something they'll need to address.

3. How did you go about selecting the thumbnail? Can you be more specific?

4. IVW won't send the video to the live event until the scheduled time. Until that time YouTube will show that message (it's not really an error). The Live Event is configured to begin as soon as the video stream begins, but of course IVW won't start streaming until the scheduled time.

Thanks Jon,

1/2 There seemed to be a problem with teh country "UK" as well but I didnt document that closely enough.

3. On the IVW page to upload a scheduled live event to YT I played the video until the point at which I wanted a scheenshot/thumbnail to be used.

4.  Can you clarify please - the Google rankings you got, they were before the time of the live event, so YT only shows a thumnail, hence the importance of having a message in the thumbnail - is that correct?

Thanks

Ok, that's the correct way to set the thumbnail. Can you tell me if the thumbnail that WAS applied was before or after the position in the video where your chosen thumbnail was? Just trying to get a handle on what might be happening.

And yes, you want that thumbnail on the Live Event so its shows in Google before the event begins.

Thanks.   Out of 4 attempts, it took 3 thumbnails as the channels main image header (the image which appears at the top of the channel) - this image was not in the video. And 1 thumbnail was the first screenshot of the video uploaded

Ah ok. I see what you mean. The thumbnail can take a few minutes to change to the one you selected. When you create a live event youtube doesn't let you specify the thumbnail in that process. IVW had to make a second call to update the thumbnail. So be sure to check how the ranking result in Google looks before assuming the thumbnail is incorrect.

Hi,
OK.  18 hours after uploading to YT, the thumbnails are still wrong.

And I've just noticed that with the [[ image word ]] method to get a slide image, the IVW system is not removing those [[ ]] brackets before using that text in the YT video text description.

And after 18 hours, nothing in Google for the "(local town) web design" search.

Not all videos rank in Google using the live event method. It depends on the competition and if Google feels a video belongs in those results.

I'll see what I can do about the brackets carrying over to the YouTube description.
