Threats From FIVERR?
« on: July 01, 2018, 04:48:33 AM »
I have received two threats of negative SEO today from someone with an address at fiverr.com. They said they had placed 20 spam links on two of my sites and would place more unless I bought a gig from them. The gig is at fiverr and the next part of the address is /vaperankz. Anyone heard of this before?

I went into fiverr and found the person and the link they want me to buy from immediately! Is this just total stupidity by someone new and desperate to earn money, if so, they are likely to get banned from fiverr because of it. Or is it someone trying to get that person a bad ranking.

Honestly, Meg, it sounds like a scam artist trying to make some easy money.

I doubt that you've been specifically targeted for negative SEO because of your sites. It's more likely that he/she has found vulnerabilities and hopes to make some quick cash of it with this blackmail.

I contacted Fiverr and they are very cross. They have taken down the gig and the person's account. It looks like this has been sent out to a lot of people. Fiverr believes they have used a 3rd party list of email addresses. They asked for the email headers and responses to emails were very quick, so they are taking this very seriously.

That's a good response from them.

The only bad thing is that this type of lowlife is likely to set up again with a new email address and start targeting other people.
