I bought some exercise videos to display in one of my web sites.  In the past I would load the video into my hosting account and embed it into the post or page where I wanted to display using tinymce advance.

However it appears that you can not do this with the latest version of Wordpress.  In fact it seems as if from some version in Version 3+ that you can not displayed self hosted videos in Wordpress.  It appears you must use a service such as youtube to store your videos and then call them into your post or page from youtube.

Has anybody found a method to display the videos you host in your own hosting account instead of youtube or some 3rd party host?

I know it takes storage and bandwidth to host your own videos but with hostnine reseller I get a huge amount of both and don't have a problem with hosting my own videos.

So my question is how is everybody handling this?  Is everybody signing up for a youtube account and loading all your videos to youtube?  Or has anybody found a method where you can host and display your own videos?

I've spent the day checking into video hosting sites and it appears that you must either accept 3rd party ads with the hosted videos or you must pay several hundred dollars to receive ad free video.    I don't want my site videos on youtube but do I still have a choice?

Thanks,

Ed

Use the iframe in text version

Just uploaded a new post with an old video that I published on this forum

Test post is here -  http://wineandwinebuying.com/

That should show you the code and the video

Hoping this helps
Eliot

EDIT :- It may depend on the theme that you're using because I've been playing around and it doesn't seem to work on some themes . Theme that is showing is basic 2012 theme from wordpress.

SECOND EDIT :- Just tried on cutline and thesis. Changed ("link") - ('link')
and updated above post

Build a tips-based article. I sent a ticket in but still have not heard back. Thanks

Thank you.  I will try this tonight.

added: It works on  the theme I am used, which is a custom based theme designed with Artisteer 4.  I had problems with 404 errors at first, until I realized that the title contained spaces within it.  I removed the spaces, reloaded the file and then it worked.

So thanks again, as I really would prefer not to use plug ins as I already use too many of them.

Hi Ed

This is best solved with plugins like Video.js
Mike

Thank you.  I will try this.  I tried several plug ins and none of them would work with this latest version of Wordpress.  But i will try this one tonight.

I could not get this to work for me.  It would work when I used their sample settings but it would not work when I substituted my video.  I appreciate you suggesting it but either it does not work in the latest version of Wordpress or I wasn't using the right settings.  But the iframe works so I can have the video on the pages.

Thanks to all who responded to this request.

You would receive better results if you asked this question in the proper sub-forum for the software, with your own thread instead of adding it to another thread in the general chatter sub-forum.

There are two reasons why this would work better for you.  The first is that the thread would be in the sub-forum where people who use the software would see the thread and would be more likely to have an answer for you.

The second reason is that the thread title would list the problem you have encountered and need an answer to solve.  Those who might have the answer would see your problem listed in the title and would be more likely to answer your question.

Hi Ed

What video format are your videos encoded in? This might be the reason for the failure. Showing video that works consistently over all devices (iPad, iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows, IE, Firefox, etc) can be quite a task, if I remember right video.js gives the possibility to give more than one video source so you can upload formats for the most important devices...

I found that it will work with mp4 in the autoplay mode.  It will not work if autoplay is not checked in the set up.

I don't like videos that automatically start playing when the site page is loaded.  So I don't impose them on my visitors if I can help it.  And in this case it would be counterproductive as I want the people to read the text on the page as well as watch the videos.

This is also a problem when using iframe.  However I will try to discover the coding for iframe so that the video will work without autoplay.

Does anybody know what code is required to get the video to display without autoplay using the iframe example.

Or using the plug in that was provided?  Either method would work great if I can prevent it from playing until the visitor clicks on the play button for it.

Thanks,

Ed

Hi Ed

Try this in text (not visual) and see if it works for you.

I'm still playing around.
Obviously change my link for your own link to your movie
or try it with my link first

<video width='470' height='360' controls='controls'>
<source src="http://simplesavvymarketing.com/autocreate/autocreate.mp4" type='video/mp4' />
<object width='470' height='360' src='movie.mp4'>
</video>

Hoping this helps

Elliot,

Thanks for trying.  You can see the results at http://chiropractor-dallastexas.com/test-3/ and http://chiropractor-dallastexas.com/test-4/

Test 3 is my information, test 4 is your information.

Firefox does not support <video>   So I had to look at them in IE.  However since Firefox does not support this format I can't use it since so many people, including me, use Firefox.

What it is showing in IE is the first page of the video.  I can not find anyway to get it to display the remainder of the video.  Clicking on the video does not start it and the comment section appears to block out where the start button would be.

But as I stated I do appreciate you taking the time to work on this.

It was possible to disable autoplay for videos in the past but removing this seems to be another "improvement" to Wordpress that I would be happier had they not made it.  :(

Thanks again for your effort,

Ed
