Hey JL, Have you tried this?
« on: March 06, 2010, 04:26:10 PM »
Hey Jon,

Say you have a keyword phrase something like "big blue widgets" , would you buy, or have you ever bought,
4 or 5 or  domains related to the term and tried to dominate page 1 of Google with a handful of different sites?

Do you think it is feasible?

Cheers mate

Craig

I have not personally used that method, but I hear from the SE Nuke guys that it's very effective.

If you want to do this, be sure to have them registered in different names.  Even if you are using a privacy protection service, Google still has access to the root information because it is a registered registrar (they all have access to this info, even though the general public does not).

It's possible, although unlikely, that those sites could be penalized if they determined that one owner was trying to game the search results.

Also be sure to have them hosted separately.  It will be a dead give-away that somebody is trying to dominate the first page if all of the websites are hosted together.

It would also be a good idea to spread their creation out over a period of time.  It might be a little suspect to have 5 websites all targeting the same keywords to appear on the Internet on the same day.

Do you think it is feasible?

If you use web 2.0 properties, this will dramatically cut down your expenses and your privacy is automatically safeguarded.  Sites like Blogger, Hubpages and Squidoo will let you put up your own content and monetize it in one way or another.

Plus you will get the advantage of piggy-backing off the authority of those sites as well.

If anyone wants dominate the first page of the SERPs, this is the way I would recommend to do (using web 2.0 properties) instead of building and hosting individual sites.  (I have worked with clients for the past couple of years doing this and had some success with it.)  It depends on how you want to use them.  The main advantage of doing this is that you can create multiple landing pages and gain more exposure.

If you use 1WL on web 2.0 sites, you can usually get multiple positions on the first page of Google's search results pages.

Another effective way to get multiple results on the first page is by using video sites (Youtube, Viddler, Vemeo, etc.,)  You can check out more info about this here http://www.PoweredByTrafficGeyser.com

Again, by distributing videos, and then build links pointing to those pages, you can usually end up with multiple spots in the SERPs, especially if you have taken the time to do good keyword research.

Hope this helps,

Neil

Not sure, but I recently did a search for a market I was thinking of getting in to and found someone had done just that. They registered tons of domain names e.g. "big blue widgets Florida", "big blue widgets Texas" etc. however the sites were almost an exact copy of each other only for the state being different.

Most of the sites I looked at seemed to be doing quite well in the SERPs.

Guess if one had the time, money and resources it would be an interesting project.
