Understanding PR and backlinks
« on: February 15, 2011, 08:31:45 PM »
Hi Jon,

Dont know whether it is an easy answer. I have reasonable knowledge of Page Rank and backlinks.

I use a piece of software which I wont mention, but it shows me the top 10 in google for a keyword.

What bemuses me is say for example a site at position 3 has 2 backlinks to page and crappy on page seo, yet then a site say in position  6 has more links better seo.

I know domain name and that come into it but in general i see examples like above, and confuses me.

It would be interesting to understand this as so when i am talking to a client on seo'ing there website i can make a fair judgement on how hard a word will be to rank for.

Cheers

Hey Jon,

An answer to the above inquiry would be useful to me as well. I like the idea of your q & a forum, hope it works out for everyone :)

Thanks

I can give specific details on the sites and/or keyword if you want to look at exact details to explain Jon.

Not sure what happened to my reply - I replied to this last night just to offer my two cents here as well as to another question on the forum and today it seems that both of my forum posts are gone / deleted?

Anyway... the keyword in the domain gives a good ranking boost and also check the age of the domains (more age = more trust).
